Another one for the list of things I should have never had to say: “No cars on the piano!” To be filed with, “Don’t kick your grandmother,” and “Don’t stand on the piano!” The younger child has a thing for trying to destroy the piano.
And before I finished posting, he managed to elicit, “No cars on the windows!”
Me: Do you have any homework tonight?
10-yr-old: I have to watch Little Shop of Horrors.
Me, to myself: This seems unlikely…
Me, out loud: Perfect, let me help you with that.

As I brought the mug of fresh-brewed coffee to my lips, the steaming liquid froze solid. Startled by the sudden coldness in my hand, I dropped the mug. The handle broke off when it hit the linoleum floor. To make matters worse, the magic wore off almost instantly, and the mug-shaped block of coffee-ice promptly melted, puddling on the floor. The curved neck and stretched wings of the black Dragon dwarf the figure of the doe-like white Unicorn. They make an unlikely picture behind the glass panel and aluminum frame of my sliding glass kitchen door. As always, quite the sight to see. I ask them in.
At kindergarten orientation, they explained if you didn’t get your kid vaccinated, you had to give them a special form & they sounded way too okay with it. My big orange Sheltie doesn’t know a lot of commands, but somehow he’s learned one super command — “Pup pup!” As far as I can tell, what “Pup pup!” means to him is, “Anticipate what I want right now and do it!” Bizarrely, it’s effective in a wide range of situations.
And this is the dog who spent a year barking at an empty wall before realizing we’d moved the printer.
There are blankets and pillows all over the floor, and the kids are scooting about on office chairs… I have mixed feelings about having shown the hot lava episode of Community to them.
